Ferrari Wins 1st SCCA National Championship

October 12, 2008

Topeka, Kan. (October 12, 2008) – It was a race to remember as drivers from across the nation came to battle in the winner-take-all, SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Heartland Park in Topeka. The Ferrari Challenge series’ own Scott Tucker along with teammate Ed Zabinski entered two superbly prepared 360 Challenge cars in T1 class against a cadre of C6 and C5 Corvettes. After qualifying in second and fourth, the race looked promising for the pair and their bid for a national championship in a Ferrari.

As the green flag dropped to start the race, Zabinski set the quickest pace with a time of 1:41.523 and on lap 14 took over the lead in an incredible display of race craft. Not to be outdone, Tucker, who fell back to fifth in an opening lap incident, coaxed a wounded Cavallino home to the final podium position by overtaking opponents with the skill and precision that he has demonstrated in the Ferrari Challenge series over the past three seasons. The win is historic, as Zabinski became the first driver ever to win an SCCA National Championship in any class while driving a Ferrari.

Ferrari would like to thank Scott and Ed for the incredible weekend and bringing Ferrari its first SCCA National Championship.
