In only his third full season of competition in the Ferrari Challenge, Roberto Fata of Englewood, NJ, driving for Ferrari of Long Island, has become the 2008 Ferrari Challenge North American series champion. Fata wrapped up the championship at the Ferrari Challenge World Finals held in Mugello, Italy where he earned enough points to hold off second place challenger, Scott Tucker from Boardwalk Ferrari of Dallas, TX. Fata had an impressive season, winning four races and only finishing outside the top 5 on one occasion in 13 races. Incredibly, Fata averaged a third place finish throughout the course of the season. Second place Tucker finished the season with a series high six wins, but fell 28 points short of Fata’s impressive 266 point total. Finishing third in the championship was 2007 series champion Mike Zoi, who won the first two races of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but who failed to return to the winner’s circle in the remaining rounds of the championship.
Rookie of the Year honors go to Mark McKenzie of Ferrari of Houston. McKenzie had a remarkable season, regularly mixing it up with the series veterans from the start and scoring four second place finishes. The 2009 series looks to be even more exciting with all this season's top contenders returning to attempt to wrestle the series crown from Fata. Expect to see Fata, Tucker, Zoi, McKenzie along with 1990’s Formula Atlantics sensation Zak Brown, 2008 rookie standout Henri Richard, Canadian, John Farano, and many others challenge for championship honors.
